Postcard is an album of Rodney Evans’ travel shots that comprise four years of shooting in China and has evolved over two series of work – ‘Tourrorist’ and ‘Park Stories’.
Since arriving in China in 2005, the Shanghai based photographer has spent his spare time traveling through provincial China documenting the way in which Chinese spend their leisure time.
Fascinated with Chinese vacationers who prefer to capture themselves in-front of the monumental view rather then the view itself, ‘Tourrorist’ began as documentary but evolved into a more considered study of portraits set in popular leisure destinations. Motivated by the inability to isolate a frame without people, Evans turned his camera on the tourists, encapsulating them in their environment.
A playful extension of the static ‘Tourroist’ series, ‘Park Stories’ takes a wider frame to revisit Evans’ earlier landscape narratives. Nestled within amusement parks or public facilities, the environments that “Park Stories’ illustrate highlight the idiosyncratic nature of leisure behavior.
Postcard offers new insight and adventures in seeing and thinking about tourist photography in China. Evans’ images demonstrate how Chinese tourists have used photography to declare 'I am here' while empowering anonymous viewers to make the experience of others intensely personal.

Office339 本次將舉辦澳大利亞攝影家Rodney Evans攝影展——“明信片”。
Rodney Evans自2005年踏上中國(guó)的土地以來(lái),這個(gè)以上海為基地進(jìn)行著創(chuàng)作活動(dòng)的攝影家走過(guò)了中國(guó)的很多地方。他把中國(guó)人在他們的假日旅行中的快樂(lè)姿態(tài)都收進(jìn)了他的相機(jī)。
本次展覽——“明信片”,來(lái)自Rodney Evans歷時(shí)四年,漫步中國(guó)所不斷拍攝的作品。作品主要由‘Tourrorist’ 和‘Park Stories’兩部分構(gòu)成。
Rodney Evans覺(jué)得非常有意思是那些中國(guó)游客比起參觀景點(diǎn)來(lái)說(shuō),更喜歡在景點(diǎn)前拍照留念。所以作為中國(guó)游客的記實(shí)而開(kāi)始的‘Tourrorist’,更有著有“人”的旅游勝地照片的意思。在中國(guó),很多人一般不拍攝沒(méi)有人的純粹的景色,這件事情讓Rodney Evans覺(jué)得很刺激,于是他把照相機(jī)的鏡頭對(duì)向了這一部分旅客,當(dāng)然在拍攝的同時(shí)也會(huì)攝入了他們周?chē)沫h(huán)境。
作為洋溢著玩心的‘Tourrorist’系列的延伸,‘Park Stories’是Rodney把自己看到的景色更多地放入取景框中而拍攝的故事。在露天游樂(lè)場(chǎng)和公共設(shè)施等地,‘Park Stories’描繪出了旅游這種行為的自然的獨(dú)特性。
“明信片” 嘗試性地提出了在中國(guó)所謂旅行照片的新觀點(diǎn)。 Rodney的照片描繪的是中國(guó)的游客是如何通過(guò)拍照來(lái)表達(dá)「到此一游」的意愿。同時(shí)也促使觀賞者從中體驗(yàn)到那些人的強(qiáng)烈個(gè)性。
